Rutgers Secures 2027 Edge Rusher Josiah Sturdivant in Rapid Commitment

The North Carolina prospect chose the Scarlet Knights over several other programs, citing a family‑like environment and his first Power Four offer.

A Swift Commitment

Rutgers Football has secured a commitment from 2027 edge rusher Josiah Sturdivant, a prospect who praised the program’s atmosphere and coach Greg Schiano as decisive factors in his choice.

Sturdivant, a graduate of Wake Forest High School in North Carolina, becomes the second player from the state to join the Scarlet Knights, linking up with linebacker Moses Poku‑Kankam in the 2027 class.

His recruitment moved at a rapid pace, with offers and official visits materializing within days, and Rutgers presenting him with his first Power Four scholarship.

While he also held interest from Kent State, Old Dominion and East Carolina, Sturdivant elected to stay home, a decision that means he will forgo official visits to the Pirates and the Monarchs.

Now the tenth member of Rutgers’ 2027 recruiting class, he hopes to embed himself in a brotherhood that feels like home and to contribute immediately on the defensive line.

Looking Ahead

Coach Schiano welcomed the addition, emphasizing that Sturdivant’s blend of size, speed and work ethic aligns with the defensive scheme the Scarlet Knights are building for the next era.
