Providence College announced the addition of Leonardo Marangon to its 2026‑27 men’s basketball roster, a move that bolsters the Friars’ frontcourt with a 6‑7 wing known for his defensive intensity and sharpshooting.
Marangon, hailing from Vigodarzere, Italy, signed an athletic‑aid agreement that will see him join the program next fall, bringing a blend of European experience and high‑level competition.
A Defensive Specialist with a Growing Offensive Threat
During his most recent season with UEB Gesteco Cividale, he averaged 9.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game, while shooting 39 percent from three‑point range. His knack for disrupting opponents was evident in 17 double‑digit scoring performances, including two 18‑point outings.
His defensive contributions helped Italy capture a gold medal at the 2025 U20 EuroBasket Tournament, where he posted averages of 8.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists across seven games, highlighted by a season‑high 18‑point effort in the final.
Coach Bryan Hodgson praised the new recruit, noting that Marangon’s “relentless work ethic and ability to guard multiple positions” will complement the existing roster and add depth to the team’s defensive schemes.
The Friars’ athletic department also highlighted the international dimension of the signing, emphasizing how Marangon’s European background will enrich the program’s cultural fabric and prepare the team for the rigors of NCAA competition.
Fans can expect to see Marangon integrated into the lineup early in the season, as the coaching staff plans to pair his defensive prowess with the team’s perimeter shooting to create a more balanced attack.
