Cougars Fall to Oregon in Regional Semifinal

Luke Meyers' strong outing isn't enough as Ducks pull away

Washington State’s baseball team saw its season end in a 4‑0 loss to No. 15 Oregon in the semifinal of the NCAA Regional tournament.

Senior right‑hander Luke Meyers turned in a solid outing, throwing 7.1 innings, striking out seven batters and allowing just one earned run.

Oregon’s starter, Will Stanford, was dominant, fanning 14 Cougars and keeping the opposition off the scoreboard until the fifth inning.

How the Ducks Pulled Away

The Ducks broke the deadlock in the fifth with an RBI single that plated a run, then added three more in the ninth via a home run that stretched the lead to four.

Washington State managed a few scattered hits, including a single by Cam Macleod in the fifth and another by Max Hartman in the ninth, but the offense could not rally.

The loss also ended several streaks for the Cougars; Trevor Smith’s 15‑game on‑base streak and 13‑game hitting streak were snapped, while Matt Priest’s 16‑game hitting streak continued with a sixth‑inning single.

Gavin Roy’s school‑record 44‑game on‑base streak also came to an end, and a hit‑by‑pitch in the sixth pushed the team’s single‑season record to 114.

Despite the defeat, Washington State will travel next to face No. 7 Oregon State, a two‑seeded opponent, in the upcoming matchup.
