Rochester Adams High School’s baseball squad appeared on the brink of elimination Tuesday night, trailing Rochester 6-2 deep into the game. The team’s resilience shone as they rallied in the final innings, ultimately securing a 7-6 victory in eight frames.
A Comeback That Defined the Season
Andrew Wozniak delivered the decisive blow, launching a two‑out double in the seventh inning that knotted the score at 6‑6 and ignited the crowd. The hit epitomized the team’s never‑give‑up attitude.
On the mound, Rino Watters, the football quarterback who has committed to Central Michigan, entered in relief and tossed more than five innings of steady work, limiting Rochester’s offense and preserving the tie.
Senior right‑hander Matt Toeppner, a Michigan State signee who returned after wrist surgery, provided a solid outing that steadied the rotation and allowed the offense to take control.
Looking Ahead to the Regional Final
With the win, Adams now faces Romeo in the regional semifinals, a matchup that could set up a favorable route to the state final four. The team entered the game as the No. 1 ranked squad in the state coaches poll for much of the season.
The Catholic League also delivered strong performances, with Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, Detroit Catholic Central and Birmingham Brother Rice all advancing, while Woodhaven posted a 3‑0 shutout of Allen Park to keep its own title hopes alive.
The regional semifinals will ultimately determine which programs move on to the Super Regional stage, where the ultimate state champions will be crowned.
