Sectional Championship Victory
Father McGivney captured their first sectional championship with a 6-0 victory over Columbia in the Class 1A Columbia Sectional championship game, avenging last season’s narrow loss and securing a shutout that highlighted the team’s balanced attack.
Layla Tobin opened the scoring, Natalie Beck contributed a goal and three assists — including a program‑record 101st career goal — while Harper Dettmers and Kinley Dettmers each added a goal and an assist, and Erin Kretzer joined the scoring parade. Sofia Rossetto sealed the outcome with the final goal, completing a 6‑0 outing.
The Griffins now turn their attention to the Civic Memorial Super‑Sectional, where they will meet Litchfield in a bid to reach the state tournament for the first time in program history.
Coach Jason Turkington praised the team’s discipline and highlighted the young defense’s role, noting keeper Peyton Ellis’s crucial saves that preserved the clean sheet.
