Rutgers University announced Wednesday that it has secured a verbal commitment from Zion Vilma, a 2027 wide receiver and cornerback prospect out of Dr. Joaquin Garcia High School in Lake Worth, Florida.
Vilma, a three‑star recruit who appears on both Rivals and 247Sports rankings, posted a breakout junior season with 47 receptions for 827 yards and 11 touchdowns on offense while also recording 17 tackles and four interceptions on defense.
Coaches project him primarily as a cornerback at the collegiate level, citing his agility and ball‑hawking instincts, but his size and route‑running ability could also translate to a hybrid receiver role.
The commitment marks the latest in a series of high‑profile additions to Rutgers’ 2027 class, which has already attracted interest from several Power Five programs.
Vilma chose the Scarlet Knights over a crowded slate of suitors that included Florida State, Georgia, Iowa State, Miami, Mississippi State, Syracuse, USF and Wake Forest, narrowing his decision after receiving an offer from Rutgers in February.
