Split Decision in Oconto
The Vikings of Gibraltar/Washington Island traveled to Oconto on Tuesday night, emerging with a split after two tightly contested games.
In the opener, a solo home run by Owen Dannhausen proved enough to edge Oconto 4-3, while Cam Munao and Aaron Brey added two doubles apiece to spark the offense.
Brey, who started on the mound, tossed 6 2/3 innings, surrendering three runs on four hits while striking out eight, before Hobbs Emerson closed the game with a walk, a hit batter and a strikeout.
The nightcap flipped the script, as the Blue Devils rallied for a 14-4 victory in five innings; Emerson and Wyatt Bultman combined to give up nine hits and six walks, striking out four.
Despite the loss, the Vikings recorded nine hits, with Munao, Brey and Miles Richmond each contributing multiple knocks.
The team now sits at 7-5 in the Packerland Conference and will look to rebound on Tuesday when they host NEW Lutheran in their next conference doubleheader.
Looking Ahead
With Dannhausen’s bat still hot and the pitching staff gaining experience, the Vikings hope to translate early-season lessons into a deeper run through the conference schedule.
