A Bold Prediction for the Trojans
USC athletic director Jennifer Cohen has publicly declared that the Trojans are poised to capture the College Football National Championship next season, citing a combination of elite recruiting, experienced leadership and a revamped front office.
Head coach Lincoln Riley, now in his fifth year with the program, returns a core group of starters while also welcoming the nation's No. 1 recruiting class of 2026. The coaching staff believes this blend of talent and continuity will finally translate into a Playoff appearance that has eluded them in recent years.
The transformation of the program’s infrastructure was accelerated by the January 2025 hiring of Chad Bowden as general manager. Bowden’s strategic moves have eased the pressure on the coaching staff and allowed them to focus on player development and game planning.
Adding to the excitement, quarterback Jayden Maiava will be back for another season, providing continuity at the most critical position. Riley emphasized that the team’s chemistry and depth give them a realistic shot at the title.
The season will open on August 29 against San Jose State at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, a venue that will also host the Trojans’ home games throughout the campaign. The matchup serves as the first test of a roster that many expect to dominate the Pac‑12 and beyond.
