A Fresh Face for the Minutemen
The University of Massachusetts announced that defenseman Barrett Dexheimer will join the program for the 2026‑27 season, marking the first addition to the Minutemen’s incoming freshman class.
At 5‑11 and 176 pounds, the left‑shot defenseman combines size with agility, traits that have long been coveted by the coaching staff on the blue line.
USHL Journey and Championship Pedigree
Dexheimer spent two seasons in the United States Hockey League, first with the Muskegon Lumberjacks and later with the Des Moines Buccaneers, recording 26 points — two goals and 24 assists — across 117 career games.
During the 2024‑25 campaign the Lumberjacks captured the Clark Cup, and Dexheimer contributed 10 points over 65 games, underscoring his reliability in high‑pressure moments.
He shared the locker room with Václav Nestrašil and Jack Galanek during that championship run, forging connections that could translate into on‑ice chemistry at UMass.
High School Excellence
Before his USHL stint, Dexheimer starred for Edina High in Minnesota, helping the squad to a Class AA state title in 2023‑24 and earning a place on the All‑Tournament team.
Coaching Connection
Coach Greg Carvel welcomed the commitment, highlighting Dexheimer’s defensive acumen and leadership potential as valuable additions to the program’s next chapter.
His arrival not only strengthens the defensive corps but also reflects the program’s ongoing emphasis on recruiting players with championship experience and a disciplined work ethic.
