A Homecoming Fueled by Academic and Athletic Ambition
Luke Ellspermann, a lifelong Evansville resident, is returning to his hometown to join the University of Evansville men's basketball program, bringing with him a recent collegiate season that showcased his scoring and playmaking abilities.
During his lone year at Wabash College, he led the team in both points and assists, averaging 15.9 points per game while dishing out 66 assists. He shot 46.8% from the field and hit 39.6% of his three‑point attempts, highlighted by a 28‑point outing against Berea.
His decision to return to Evansville was driven by a desire to combine academic rigor with a competitive basketball environment, a choice that aligns with the university’s reputation for student‑athlete development.
At Memorial High School, Ellspermann capped his prep career with averages of 19.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game, earning Southern Indiana Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors and an All‑State Honorable Mention.
Joining him will be longtime program assistant David Ragland, whose experience is expected to help integrate the new roster into the team’s defensive schemes and offensive sets.
The university’s athletic department, in partnership with local community groups, anticipates that Ellspermann’s return will energize fans and reinforce the program’s trajectory toward conference contention.
