The Gauchos' season came to a close on a humid night in Austin, where UC Santa Barbara fell 6-4 to the Texas Longhorns in the Regional final.
Kellan Montgomery, a Santa Barbara native, took the mound and delivered a commanding opening stretch, holding the Longhorns scoreless through the first six innings and giving the Gauchos a slender edge.
But Texas refused to surrender. In the sixth, a sacrifice fly and a two‑out single sparked a four‑run burst that turned the tide, a surge that would define the final three innings.
Rowan Kelly provided the spark for the Gauchos, launching a solo home run and adding a double that kept the lead alive through the early frames.
A Late‑Game Onslaught
The Longhorns, seeded sixth nationally with a 43‑13 record, capitalized in the seventh when Aiden Robbins smashed a two‑run homer, shifting momentum decisively.
Texas added two more runs in the eighth, extending their advantage to 6‑3, before the Gauchos trimmed the margin with a couple of runs in the bottom of the eighth.
A final rally in the ninth saw the Gauchos load the bases, but the comeback fell short as Luke Harrison, a rare relief appearance, sealed the victory for Texas.
