Garrett Shelton Commits to Tennessee State
The Tennessee State men's basketball program announced the addition of Garrett Shelton, a 6‑foot guard whose defensive intensity and playmaking have already turned heads across the Ohio Valley Conference.
Shelton arrives after a standout senior season at Frisco Heritage High School in Texas, where he helped the program capture the 2025 Class 5A Division I State Championship.
During that campaign he averaged 5.7 points, 3.7 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game, ranking among the top assist leaders in Region II and Class 5A.
Coaches praised his ability to disrupt opponents, noting that he logged multiple games with five or more steals, including a six‑steal effort against Berkner, and knocked down 42 three‑pointers over the season.
His 22‑point, nine‑rebound, five‑assist performance against The Colony highlighted his all‑around skill set, while his nine‑assist outings against Melissa and Wakeland underscored his playmaking vision.
Shelton’s arrival comes as the Tigers celebrate a historic 2025‑26 season that produced the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Championship and a return to the NCAA Tournament after a 32‑year hiatus.
