UConn Women’s Soccer Bolsters 2026 Roster with Four International Signings

New recruits bring diverse experience as the program rebuilds after a turbulent offseason

UConn’s women’s soccer program has added four new faces to its 2026 roster, signaling an aggressive effort to reshape the team after a challenging offseason.

A Strategic Rebuild

The incoming class blends domestic talent with international experience. Téa Reyes, a forward from San Jose, California, arrives after a stint at Sacramento State, while Chloe Shimkin, a midfielder from Rockville Centre, New York, brings her Texas collegiate background. Morgan Barry, hailing from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, joins from the University of Vermont, and Hrefna Jónsdóttir, a midfielder from Gardabaer, Iceland, comes from UF Stjarnan, adding a global perspective to the squad.

The roster reshaping comes as the program copes with significant turnover. Six scholarship players departed via graduation, and another six entered the transfer portal, creating openings that the coaching staff is working to fill.

Head coach Margaret Rodriguez oversaw a reshuffling of her staff, with associate head coach Carey O’Brien departing to lead the girls’ varsity program at The Loomis Chaffee School. Marin Hearin, who spent four seasons at UMass, has been tapped to replace O’Brien, bringing fresh ideas to the tactical setup.

Last season the Huskies posted an 11‑4‑3 record but missed the NCAA Tournament, a result that has intensified the urgency to reinforce the squad before the new campaign begins. The athletic department has yet to release the 2026 schedule, but the additions suggest a deliberate strategy to compete at a higher level.
