Cole Downey Named Head Coach of Northwood Baseball

Young coach inherits a winning tradition and outlines a future built on toughness and accountability

A New Era for Northwood Baseball

Cole Downey, a former athlete and current Loyola assistant coach, has been appointed as the new head coach of Northwood’s baseball program, succeeding Austin Alexander.

Downey, at 26, arrives with a championship pedigree from Calvary Baptist, where he helped lead teams to titles in 2022 and 2024, and he will also serve as a special education teacher at Northwood.

He will be joined by Cade Hart, a former All‑State baseball and football standout from Calvary, who will transition to a business instructor while contributing as an assistant coach.

Alexander retired after seven seasons that produced 193 wins, district championships in 2022 and 2024, and a run to the LHSAA quarterfinals, leaving a strong foundation for the program.

Both Downey and Hart stress the importance of relationships, toughness, accountability and discipline, aiming to extend the winning culture and prepare players for life beyond the diamond.

Downey has credited several mentors for shaping his coaching philosophy and believes that a strong community connection will be key to the program’s continued success.

The new coaching staff looks forward to building on the legacy of excellence while guiding student‑athletes toward personal growth and future opportunities.
