A new face on the bench
Ke’Sha Blanton, a former player with a strong coaching pedigree, has been announced as the newest addition to the coaching staff. Her experience as a graduate assistant at a Power Five program brings a modern perspective to the Hokies’ tactical approach, and her recruitment underscores the university’s commitment to building a competitive bench.
The NCAA has announced that the women’s tournament field will expand to 76 teams beginning next season, a change that directly benefits Virginia Tech. The Hokies, who secured a No. 9 seed in the previous tournament, now find themselves assured of a berth regardless of early‑season fluctuations, a safety net that reflects the committee’s confidence in the program’s recent progress.
The roster will also see the exit of two of its most prominent players, forward Carys Baker and guard Mackenzie Nelson. Both athletes have been instrumental in the team’s recent successes, and their departures create opportunities for younger talent to step into larger roles.
Adding to the mix, Virginia Tech secured the commitment of Natalee Goff, a Division II standout who entered the program through the Transfer Portal in May. Goff arrives with a proven scoring record, having averaged 14.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game last season, and she capped the year with a 30‑point outing that highlighted her scoring explosiveness.
