The New York Giants announced the addition of veteran return specialist Braxton Berrios, a move designed to replace the injured Gunner Olszewski on the special‑teams unit.
Coach Brian Daboll indicated that Berrios will primarily compete for spots on the practice squad and special‑teams coverage, noting that the team’s wide‑receiver depth chart is already crowded with Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton and Calvin Austin III.
Because of that depth, Berrios is expected to sit sixth on the roster at the receiver position, meaning he is unlikely to see a substantial number of offensive snaps during the regular season.
Limited Offensive Outlook
Fantasy owners should temper expectations, as Berrios’s career has been defined more by his work on the field than by receptions; he has averaged at least 23 yards per kick return since 2020 and has only one career kickoff return touchdown.
Heading into his 30s, the former Miami Dolphins and New York Jets player brings 46 receptions from his best season in 2021, but those numbers are unlikely to translate into a reliable weekly starter role in New York.
While his presence could help the Giants’ special‑teams unit, the team’s offensive plans will continue to rely on the established trio of Nabers, Slayton and Austin III.
