Saints Capture Third Straight Class 5A Baseball Title
St. Thomas Aquinas extended its reign as the premier high school baseball program in the state, securing its third consecutive Class 5A championship with a 4‑0 victory over Shawnee Heights on Friday night.
The win was built on a masterful pitching duet: Lincoln Boyle and James Forgy combined for a two‑hit shutout, while senior standout Will Ray made a spectacular diving catch in the fifth inning that preserved the lead.
Forgy, who closed out the championship game for the third straight year, entered the mound in the seventh and retired the side in order, sealing the shutout. His performance capped a season in which the senior class was repeatedly praised for its cohesion and work ethic.
Coach Rick Sabath highlighted the senior class’s chemistry, noting that the nine‑player group — including Boyle, Forgy, Ray, and several other starters — had become a model of coachability and mutual support.
Shawnee Heights finished the season with a 21‑10 record, while the Saints closed at 23‑8. Both programs were lauded by their respective coaches, with Shawnee Heights manager Jason Brown expressing pride in his team’s effort despite the loss.
A Senior‑Driven Dynasty
The Saints’ senior class, which includes Boyle, Forgy, Ray, Brady Stewart, Henry Goodwin, Sterling Thornton, Owen Kitts and Micah Smith, was celebrated for its collective dedication. Their blend of talent and teamwork has set a benchmark for future cohorts.
