The Iowa High School Boys State Soccer Tournament opened Monday with a full slate of sixteen quarterfinal contests spread across four divisions, setting the stage for a week of high‑stakes competition.

In the Class 4A bracket, Waukee Northwest edged Johnston 2‑1 in a dramatic penalty‑kick shootout after a 0‑0 deadlock, a result that kept the Wolves alive in the hunt for the title.

Class 3A produced several memorable moments, including a 3‑1 victory by Des Moines Roosevelt over Southeast Polk in which James Lunganga completed a hat trick, as well as wins by Des Moines Hoover, Dallas Center‑Grimes and Norwalk that secured their places in the next round.

Urbandale advanced to the semifinals after a 3‑1 triumph over Iowa City West, while Sioux City Bishop Heelan eliminated Mount Vernon on penalties in the Class 2A quarterfinals.

Council Bluff St. Albert, West Sioux, West Central Valley and Iowa City Regina Catholic all progressed in Class 1A, completing a diverse set of semifinalists representing different regions of the state.

Semifinals for the 4A and 3A classes are slated for June 3, with the 2A and 1A matches following on June 4. The championship cycle will culminate on June 5 at Mediacom Stadium in Des Moines, where the Class 3A title will be decided and the other finals will also be contested.

All final games, regardless of division, will be staged at Mediacom Stadium, reinforcing its role as the tournament’s central hub and offering teams a consistent stage as they chase state glory.
