A milestone on the ice
The Austin Metro Hockey Association (AMHA) marked its fifth anniversary last weekend at The Crossover in Cedar Park, drawing families, coaches and local officials into a celebration of growth and community spirit.
Founded as the primary governing body for youth hockey in Austin, AMHA has expanded its reach through a collaboration with The Pond Hockey Club, launching a new franchise called the Austin Capitals.
The partnership also brings a fresh intercity league, tournament squads and travel teams under the Capitals banner, giving youngsters a clear pathway from beginner programs to competitive play.
In addition to competitive opportunities, AMHA organizes "Try Hockey For Free" events at local schools, inviting newcomers to experience the sport without financial barriers.
Grassroots growth in Central Texas
The organization’s footprint now stretches across Cedar Park, Leander and the broader Austin metro area, a geographic spread that reflects both demand and the region’s growing interest in youth hockey.
City officials praised the initiative for its role in promoting healthy recreation and fostering inclusive community engagement.
With plans to deepen school‑based outreach and expand tournament schedules, AMHA aims to cement its position as the go‑to hub for the next generation of Austin hockey players.
