Oklahoma State University has named Gavin Roberts its new strength coach, tapping a proven developer of championship-caliber programs to guide the Cowboys' athletic development. Roberts arrives with two national title rings earned during his tenure at the University of Connecticut, where he helped shape the Huskies' dominant men's team.
A championship pedigree
During his time at UConn, Roberts oversaw strength, conditioning, nutrition and wellness for the men's program, integrating cutting‑edge training methods with a holistic approach to player health. His work contributed directly to the team's NCAA Tournament victories in 2023 and 2024, underscoring his ability to elevate talent through systematic preparation.
Before joining UConn, Roberts honed his craft at Purdue and Western Michigan, building programs that emphasized comprehensive athlete development. He also played football at Purdue, graduating with a degree in health and fitness, a background that informs his nuanced understanding of sport-specific conditioning.
A fresh start in Stillwater
Roberts will now apply his expertise to a Oklahoma State squad that is undergoing a significant transformation. The roster will feature only four returning players, while the program adds four freshmen and six incoming transfers, creating a new‑look team eager for direction. His arrival coincides with the hiring of head coach Steve Lutz, with whom he previously collaborated at Purdue.
In a statement, Roberts expressed enthusiasm about joining the Cowboys and working alongside Coach Lutz and the broader staff. He highlighted the program's potential and his commitment to fostering an environment where athletes can excel physically and academically, aiming to restore the program's competitive edge.
