A Historic Season for South Jersey Baseball
Alex Weingartner, a senior at St. Augustine Prep, has been named the Gatorade New Jersey Baseball Player of the Year for the 2025-26 season, marking the first time a South Jersey athlete has received the honor since Chase Petty in 2020-21.
At the plate he boasts a .512 batting average, having collected 42 hits while scoring 43 runs and driving in 32 RBIs. His speed is equally impressive, with 21 walks and 29 stolen bases that keep opposing defenses on edge.
On the mound he posts a 1.02 ERA and has struck out 64 batters over 34 1/3 innings, underscoring his value as a two‑way talent who can dominate both offensively and defensively.
Standing 6‑foot‑2 and weighing 205 pounds, Weingartner is committed to Penn State University, yet he remains a top prospect projected to be selected early in the upcoming Major League Baseball First‑Year Player Draft.
Beyond athletics, he serves as president of the St. Augustine chapter of the National Honor Society and maintains an A average, reflecting a commitment to scholarship as well as sport.
