Lakewood High School announced this week that Anthony Razo, a 2010 graduate of the school, will take the helm of its baseball program, succeeding the storied Spud O’Neil who retired after amassing 984 wins and two CIF‑SS championships.
A homecoming for a Lancers legend
Razo, who most recently served as a coach at Clarke University and previously at Culver‑Stockton College, brings a track record of success, having guided Clarke to three consecutive NAIA National Tournament appearances.
In a statement, longtime Lancers athletic director Mike Wadley highlighted Razo’s blend of playing experience, coaching acumen and commitment to the program, noting that the school is looking for long‑term stability rather than a quick fix.
Razo said he is eager to return to the place where he first fell in love with the game, promising to honor the hard‑nosed reputation of Lakewood baseball while introducing a new school‑wide approach that still values discipline and love for the sport.
He also indicated that he will begin his tenure as a walk‑on coach, with the possibility of expanding his role to include teaching or serving as a substitute, a path that reflects his desire to give back to the community that shaped him.
