Chris Curry, the head coach of the Arkansas‑Little Rock Trojans baseball team, has taken the program to a historic milestone, guiding the squad to its first appearance in the NCAA super regionals. The achievement marks a turning point for a school that had long hovered in the shadows of college baseball's elite.
A Legacy of Transformation
The foundation for this breakthrough was laid years earlier by Gary Hogan, who took over the program in the early 2000s and reshaped both its culture and its infrastructure. Hogan’s vision included a new turf infield, a grass outfield, modern dugouts and an indoor hitting facility at Curran Conway Field, upgrades that would later bear his name.
A pivotal moment came when an anonymous donor contributed $1.6 million toward the renovation, prompting the university to christen the upgraded venue Gary Hogan Field. Hogan’s impact was further recognized when he was inducted into the UALR Hall of Fame in 2004, cementing his place in the institution’s sporting heritage.
Under Curry’s stewardship, the Trojans have begun to translate that groundwork into on‑field success. The 2025 season saw the team win five games in four days at the Ohio Valley Conference tournament, a feat that included a dramatic 10‑4 victory over LSU, the national champions‑to‑be, before a heartbreaking 10‑6 loss in the winner‑takes‑all matchup.
Looking Ahead
The program’s trajectory suggests that the combination of Hogan’s physical upgrades and Curry’s disciplined coaching will continue to yield results. As the team looks toward the next season, the expectation is not merely to participate but to compete for further deep runs in the NCAA tournament.
