A Recruiting Setback for the Seminoles
Florida State has managed only a single verbal commitment since February, a scarcity that has left the coaching staff scrambling to fill gaps in the 2027 class.
Four‑star wide receiver Jabari Watkins, a local product and former prep teammate of Cam Brooks, announced that he will not take the scheduled official visit to Tallahassee, surprising many observers who had marked him as a cornerstone recruit.
Watkins, who publicly thanked the Seminoles staff and said he harbors no ill will, explained that his decision was driven by a desire to explore other programs before making a final pledge.
A Tour of Alternatives
The recruit has lined up official visits to Louisville, Arkansas and Georgia Tech in the coming weeks, each trip serving as a final audition before he reveals his choice on July 1.
During his junior season he posted 55 receptions for 847 yards and 11 touchdowns, earning the No. 253 overall prospect ranking and the No. 34 spot among wide receivers in the 2027 class.
The Seminoles’ 2027 class currently holds six verbal pledges and sits at No. 39 in the national rankings, a position that could slip further if Watkins ultimately decides elsewhere.
His departure underscores the volatility of modern recruiting, where top prospects can pivot at the last minute, forcing programs to constantly reassess their board.
