Emely Rodriguez, a former guard for the Iowa Hawkeyes, has announced her transfer to Syracuse University, joining the Orange for the upcoming season.
A Strategic Addition for the Orange
Syracuse head coach Felisha Legette‑Jack highlighted Rodriguez’s offensive skill set and relentless competitive spirit, saying the player brings a dynamic dimension to the team’s attack.
Rodriguez’s sophomore campaign was curtailed by a back injury and a subsequent suspension, limiting her to just a handful of appearances where she posted averages of 7.2 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
Despite the abbreviated production, the coaching staff sees untapped potential, noting that the forward could still have two or three years of eligibility remaining pending a medical‑hardship waiver.
The move comes on the heels of a breakthrough season for Syracuse, which culminated in a stunning upset of Iowa State in the NCAA tournament and secured a strong finish in the conference standings.
Rodriguez will become the fourth transfer signed by the Orange this offseason, a strategy that reflects the program’s aggressive roster rebuilding under Legette‑Jack.
The addition underscores Syracuse’s intent to blend veteran experience with fresh talent as they aim to contend for deeper tournament runs in the coming year.
