Virginia Basketball is putting the finishing touches on its roster for the 2026‑27 season, a move that underscores the program’s intent to preserve the momentum generated by last year’s NCAA Tournament run.
The Cavaliers have announced the retention of Thijs de Ridder, Sam Lewis, Johann Grunloh and Chance Mallory, the four pillars who will anchor the team’s interior and perimeter play.
Adding to the mix are three transfers and a highly touted high‑school recruit, though the coaching staff still has one scholarship slot to allocate.
The projected starting five features Mallory and Jurian Dixon at the guard positions, with Lewis and de Ridder slated to start at forward and Grunloh anchoring the center spot.
Backup minutes are expected to go to a mix of experienced role players such as Christian Harmon, Elijah Gertrude, Kalu Anya, Silas Barksdale and Favour Ibe, each bringing distinct skill sets — from three‑point shooting to rebounding dominance.
Dixon’s three‑point percentage climbed from 38% last season to 39% in conference play, while Anya’s rebounding prowess placed him third in the A‑10 last year, adding depth to the frontcourt.
