George Mason University has secured a significant addition to its men's basketball roster as forward Elijah Jones has committed to the program for the 2026‑27 campaign. The announcement, made by head coach Tony Skinn, highlights the arrival of a player who has already demonstrated the ability to impact games on both ends of the floor.
A Versatile Threat on the Wing
Skinn described Jones as a dynamic combo forward capable of playing multiple positions and shooting at a high level. The coaching staff believes his versatility will add a new dimension to the Patriots' offensive schemes, allowing them to stretch the floor and create mismatches against opposing defenses.
During his junior season at UTEP, Jones ranked second on the team in scoring (13.1 points per game), rebounding (5.4 per game) and blocks (1.1 per game). He earned All-Conference USA Honorable Mention honors and led the Miners with a .386 overall three‑point percentage, rising to .411 in conference play. His scoring prowess was evident in six 20‑point outings, highlighted by a career‑high 25 points against Liberty.
Jones's statistical trajectory shows steady growth. As a sophomore he appeared in 33 games, averaging 3.5 points and 2.3 rebounds, while earning All-CUSA Freshman honors and being selected four times for the CUSA Rookie of the Week award. Over three seasons he amassed 625 points and shot 38.7 percent from beyond the arc, underscoring a reliable outside threat that complements his interior work.
A Transfer Class With Depth
Jones joins a transfer class that includes Baraka Okojie, Emmett Adair, Makhai Valentine, Efeosa Oliogu-Elabor, Lilian Marville and Michael Marcus Jr. The group is expected to inject fresh talent and depth into the program, creating competition that could elevate the team's overall performance. Their collective experience and varied skill sets suggest a promising outlook for the Patriots' future campaigns.
Coach Skinn emphasized that Jones's arrival is part of a broader strategy to build a competitive, balanced roster. By adding a player who can handle multiple roles and stretch the floor, the staff aims to enhance both offensive flexibility and defensive resilience. The coaching staff believes this blend of skill and versatility will position the program strongly as it looks ahead to the upcoming season.
