A New Hub for Recreation
Wurtsboro, a small village in New York, has just opened a new community park made possible by the 2025 Silver Feather grant, which allocated $75,000 from the Sullivan 180 Community Impact Program. The funding reflects the program’s broader goal of expanding access to green spaces and trails throughout the region.
The park features dedicated pickleball and basketball courts, designed to attract both younger residents and adults seeking active recreation. Its recent ribbon‑cutting ceremony drew local officials, community members, and a crowd eager to explore the fresh facilities.
Village Mayor Frank Cisco took the opportunity to thank the grant partners and volunteers whose efforts turned the vision into reality, emphasizing the park’s role in fostering healthier lifestyles.
Kelly De Guzman, a member of the Wurtsboro Board of Trade, spoke at the ceremony about the project’s completion and the importance of communal gathering places.
Assemblywoman Paula Kaye expressed particular excitement about the inclusion of pickleball courts, noting the sport’s growing popularity and the new venue’s potential to bring families together.
Beyond recreation, the park is intended to serve as a safe, welcoming environment for older children and adults to exercise, socialize, and build connections within the neighborhood.
