Siena Secures Spanish 7‑1 Center Andrés Amón

Coach Nevada Smith adds a promising front‑court talent ahead of the 2026‑27 season

Siena College announced today that head coach Nevada Smith has secured a commitment from seven‑foot Spanish center Andrés Amón, a prospect who spent the last season with Club Baloncesto Estudiantes in Madrid.

Amón, a 7‑1 big man, brings a blend of size and mobility that could reshape the Saints’ interior game.

A Promising International Prospect

The Madrid native earned a spot on the Spain U20 National Team for the recent Eurobasket Tournament, highlighting his potential on the European stage.

During his tenure with Club Baloncesto Estudiantes, Amón posted averages of 10.9 points and 9.6 rebounds across 24 games in the Third Division FEB, and he recorded nine double‑digit rebounds in each of his final three contests, including a stretch where he tallied 17.0 points and 20.3 rebounds per game.

His breakout performances earned him a late‑season promotion to Estudiantes’ senior roster, where he logged 2.3 points and 3.0 rebounds in limited minutes, before helping Movistar Estudiantes B secure promotion with 11.3 points and 11.7 rebounds in three playoff games.

Amón will join a Siena roster that already features returning players such as Brendan Coyle, Reid Ducharme, Isaiah Henderson and Owen Schlager, as well as re‑committed freshman Parrish Edmond, Jr. He becomes the tenth scholarship member of the 2026‑27 class and the fifth newcomer since Smith assumed the head‑coaching role.

The signing adds to a wave of fresh talent that includes Tim Ibukunoluwa, Trent Egbiremolen, Pace Prosser and Tan Yildizoglu, all of whom are expected to contribute to the team’s depth and competitiveness.

Coach Smith expressed confidence that Amón’s experience with the Spanish national program and his proven rebounding prowess will translate well to the collegiate game, noting that the player’s work ethic and versatility fit the program’s philosophy.
