A Strategic Commitment
Oklahoma State has officially offered a scholarship to Carter Morgan, the Denton Guyer quarterback who has emerged as one of Texas' most coveted high school recruits. The proposal comes as the Cowboys look ahead to the 2028 recruiting class, a timeline that will not allow Morgan to sign until December 2027. By extending the offer now, the program hopes to cement a relationship early and shape a class that could define the next era of its offense.
The offer also arrives at a moment when Oklahoma State's current starter, Drew Mestemaker, still has two years of eligibility remaining. Mestemaker transferred to the university from North Texas, where he joined a wave of 16 players moving to Stillwater. The proximity of North Texas to Denton — just under ten miles from Guyer High School — creates a natural corridor for talent exchange, a fact that the Cowboys are leveraging as they scout the next generation of signal‑callers.
Building a Future Pipeline
The Cowboys have already secured other quarterbacks in adjacent classes, including Broderick Vehrs from Basha High School in the Class of 2026 and Carson White, an Iowa Colony product committed in the 2027 cycle. These commitments illustrate a deliberate effort to build depth at the position, ensuring that the program does not rely on a single recruiting class to fill the quarterback slot. Beyond individual signings, the outreach to Morgan reflects a broader philosophy of cultivating pipelines from schools with proven track records. Denton Guyer, which produced former Cowboys starter J.W. Walsh, has become a fertile recruiting ground, and the university's coaching staff is keen to maintain that connection as it plans for sustained success on the field.
