Eastern Kentucky University’s baseball program celebrated a double triumph this spring as three of its standout players earned spots on the 2026 Academic All‑District® Baseball Team announced by College Sports Communicators.
Scholarship Meets Competition
The Academic All‑District® honor roll spotlights student‑athletes who excel not only on the diamond but also in the classroom, recognizing a blend of athletic performance, academic rigor and community contribution.
Among the honorees, redshirt senior Jack Briese stands out for his dual academic pedigree, having completed two undergraduate degrees in business and Spanish before entering a master’s program where he maintains a perfect 4.00 GPA.
Gavin Faulkner, a senior in the sport management curriculum, carries a 3.68 GPA and is simultaneously pursuing an MBA, illustrating a commitment to both leadership on the field and strategic insight off it.
Junior Griffin Howell, majoring in sport management, posts a 3.65 GPA while balancing a full athletic schedule, underscoring the program’s emphasis on developing well‑rounded leaders.
Their selections reflect a broader narrative at Eastern Kentucky, where coaching staff and academic advisors collaborate to foster environments where rigorous scholarship and competitive athletics reinforce each other.
The recognition also shines a light on the university’s growing reputation in collegiate baseball, a sport that has seen the Colonels contend strongly in recent seasons, including a memorable matchup against Illinois State that drew regional attention.
