A milestone in academics and athletics
The College Sports Communicators (CSC) has announced its latest Academic All‑District Team, and for the Johns Hopkins baseball program it marks a fifth straight season with five honorees — a sixth occurrence in program history. The recognition underscores the Blue Jays' consistent ability to blend scholarly achievement with high‑level competition.
Among the honorees are Damian Brown, Lukas Geer, Clay Hartje, Michael Yousef and Alex Shane. While Brown, Geer, Hartje and Yousef earn their first spots on the team, Shane joins an exclusive group as the fourth player in program history to be named to the All‑District squad three times.
Excellence beyond the classroom
Each student‑athlete balances a demanding academic load with elite competition. Brown, a Molecular & Cellular Biology major, carries a 3.82 GPA and delivered standout performances at the 2026 DIII World Series. Geer, studying Computer Science with a 3.55 GPA, was named Most Valuable Player of the 2026 NCAA Super Regional Tournament. Hartje, an Economics concentrator with a 3.79 GPA, earned the Centennial Conference Tournament MVP. Shane, double‑majoring in Computer Science & Economics, boasts a 3.94 GPA and holds multiple program records. Yousef, pursuing Mechanical Engineering with a 3.52 GPA, was selected Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Their combined achievements illustrate a culture where scholarly excellence and athletic prowess are pursued simultaneously. The honorees have not only contributed to on‑field success, including deep runs in the DIII World Series, but also set a benchmark for future student‑athletes at Johns Hopkins.
The recognition reflects the collaborative effort of the university, the athletic department, and the broader collegiate community. As the program looks ahead, the continued presence on CSC lists suggests that Johns Hopkins will remain a model for integrating rigorous academics with competitive baseball.
