Eastern Michigan Baseball Players Earn Academic All-District Honors

Five Eagles recognized for excellence in the classroom and on the field

On Tuesday, June 2, the College Sports Communicators released its annual Academic All-District® Baseball teams, honoring student-athletes who excel both in competition and scholarship. The recognition underscores the growing emphasis on balancing rigorous academics with high‑level athletics at the collegiate level.

A Dual Commitment to Scholarship and Sport

Eastern Michigan University celebrated the inclusion of five of its baseball players — John Carmichael, Cole Egan, John Hale, Bruce Jellison, and TJ Williams — on the district roster. Each athlete not only contributed significantly on the diamond but also maintained cumulative GPAs of 3.5 or higher, meeting the stringent eligibility criteria for the honor.

Carmichael, a sports management major, posted a perfect 4.00 GPA and anchored the team as the Friday starter. Egan, studying general studies, appeared in 24 games while carrying a 3.60 GPA. Hale, also in general studies, logged a 3.65 GPA after participating in 51 contests, and Jellison, another general studies major, posted a 3.63 GPA across 49 appearances. Williams, the team’s stolen‑base leader with 14 thefts, finished with a 3.83 GPA.

Their academic achievements add to Eastern Michigan’s cumulative total of 31 College Sports Communicators Academic All‑District honors since 2002, reflecting a long‑standing culture that values scholarly excellence alongside athletic performance. The university’s partnership with the College Sports Communicators, accessible via emich.edu and cscommunicators.org, continues to promote this dual‑focus model.
