Tulane University announced that five of its baseball players have earned spots on the College Sports Communicators Academic All‑District Division I team, a distinction that highlights both athletic achievement and scholarly excellence.
A Season Marked by Growth
The honorees — Trey Cehajic, Sam Larson, Trent Liolios, Jake Toporek and Blaise Wilcenski — were all first‑time selections, underscoring the program’s rising depth. Cehajic logged 16 appearances with 11 starts, posting three wins and 49 strikeouts; Larson, used primarily as a reliever, appeared in 28 games, saved four and fanned 54 batters; Liolios, a mainstay at first base, started 47 of 52 contests, scored 30 runs and drove in 36; Toporek contributed 40 strikeouts over 43 innings; and Wilcenski, a bullpen arm, posted a 2‑2 record with 27 strikeouts.
To qualify, each student‑athlete maintained a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 and demonstrated substantial playing time, a standard set by the College Sports Communicators, which recognizes the top scholars who excel on the field.
The Green Wave finished the 2026 campaign with a 25‑31 overall record and a 10‑17 mark in conference play, a season that featured several bright spots highlighted by the academic accolades.
Looking Ahead
All five players now advance to the CSC Academic All‑America ballot, a next‑stage honor that could place Tulane among the nation’s most distinguished scholar‑athletes. Meanwhile, senior pitcher Jason Wachs was also named an All‑Conference selection, adding a professional‑level acknowledgment to the program’s achievements.
