Five members of the Marshall University baseball squad have earned a place on the College Sports Communicators Academic All‑District Team, a recognition that blends athletic achievement with scholarly distinction.
Balancing the Books and the Bat
To qualify, each student‑athlete must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 and meet rigorous playing requirements that reflect meaningful contributions on the field.
Kenyon Collins, a native of Ona, West Virginia, logged 72 innings on the mound, striking out 72 batters while starting 14 of the 15 games in which he appeared. Jackson Golden, hailing from Apopka, Florida, appeared in 46 starts and compiled a .259 batting average with 42 hits, including eight doubles, two homers and a triple. AJ Havrilla, from Canfield, Ohio, started every one of the 55 games at first base, delivering a .266 average and six home runs. Cooper Hinson, a Valrico, Florida, product, started 52 contests and posted a .295 average with 17 doubles and two homers. Finally, Charlie Krebs, who grew up in Purcellville, Virginia, contributed out of the bullpen with three saves and two wins, striking out 38 batters in 40 innings.
Their performances helped the Herd secure a competitive season, underscoring the program’s depth both in the dugout and in the classroom.
The honor reflects a broader trend across college athletics, where institutions increasingly celebrate students who excel in both arenas, setting a benchmark for future teams.
