Western Michigan Baseball Players Garner Academic All-District Accolades

Five Broncos celebrated for outstanding performance on the field and in the classroom

Broncos earn Academic All-District honors

The Western Michigan University baseball program celebrated a noteworthy milestone this week as five of its student-athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, an honor that highlights excellence both on the diamond and in the classroom.

Leading the group, Tanner Mally captured the nation's attention by topping NCAA Division I with a .446 batting average, a feat that earned him his second straight spot on the All-District roster and reflects his sustained offensive dominance.

Defensive standout Maloney earns repeat honor

Michael Maloney, celebrated for his .977 fielding percentage, was also selected as co-Defensive Player of the Year in the Mid-America Conference and secured his second consecutive Academic All-District appointment, underscoring his defensive reliability.

The newcomers to the accolade — Sam Carlisle, Ricky Kidd and Drew Howard — brought additional depth to the squad; Carlisle posted a 4.95 ERA with 67 strikeouts in 60 innings, Kidd compiled an 8-1 record and 4.08 ERA over 79.1 innings, while Howard contributed a .349 average and a .439 on-base percentage, all of which helped steer the team toward a competitive season.

All five athletes have now been positioned as finalists for the CSC Academic All-America honor, a distinction that would further spotlight Western Michigan's commitment to developing well-rounded competitors.
