Academic All-District Honors Celebrate ACU Baseball
The latest Academic All-District selections from College Sports Communicators have put a spotlight on the academic tenacity of Abilene Christian University’s baseball program. Five Wildcats earned the distinction, joining a growing list of student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and on the diamond.
Eligibility for the honor requires more than just athletic prowess. Candidates must have completed at least sophomore standing academically and athletically, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, and meet position-specific participation thresholds set by the organization.
A Cadre of Scholar-Athletes
Among the honorees are senior Nick Arias, who capped his collegiate career with a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a 3.66 GPA, and fellow graduate David Jeon, who earned a kinesiology degree with a 3.79 GPA. Both were recognized for their second consecutive year on the All-District team.
Aidan Coleman, a marketing major with a 3.90 GPA, contributed a 7-3 record on the mound and struck out 50 batters in 77 innings, while utility player JT Thompson balanced a 3.73 GPA with a .339 batting average and 64 hits. Evan Whiteaker, graduating with a health sciences degree and a 3.75 GPA, posted a 4-3 record and 46 strikeouts over 55.1 innings.
Their achievements extend beyond personal statistics. Arias started 50 games at third base, posted a .296 average, a .903 OPS and drove in 42 runs, while also ranking among the team leaders in several offensive categories. Coleman’s 1.38 WHIP and 5.84 ERA highlighted his reliability as a starter, and Thompson’s versatility allowed him to appear in both the infield and outfield.
A Program Proud of Its Dual Distinction
This marks the second straight year that the Wildcats have fielded the maximum number of Academic All-District honorees permitted by the organization, underscoring a culture that values scholarly achievement as much as athletic success. In total, nine ACU baseball seniors graduated this spring, reflecting the program’s commitment to preparing student-athletes for life after college.
The recognition also ties into broader trends across the Western Athletic Conference, where academic excellence is increasingly intertwined with competitive performance. As the team looks ahead to the next season, the blend of seasoned veterans and emerging talent promises to keep the Wildcats competitive both on the scoreboard and in the classroom.
Looking Forward
With a foundation built on high academic standards and on-field resilience, the program aims to continue its trajectory of excellence. The five recent honorees serve as role models for younger players, illustrating that dedication in the lab can translate into dominance in the game.
