A French Connection in Kentucky
Murray State University announced this week that it has reached an agreement with Talis Soulhac, a 6‑foot‑2 point guard who spent the last season with ADA Blois Basket in France’s Pro B league. The Racers’ coaching staff described the signing as a strategic move to deepen the backcourt and add a player with proven playmaking ability.
Soulhac’s statistical profile impressed the Racers’ front office. In 30 games for Blois, he posted averages of 12.5 points, 3.8 assists and 1.9 rebounds while shooting 40.2 percent from the field and an impressive 80.5 percent from the free‑throw line. Those numbers place him among the more reliable scorers in the second division.
A Growing French Presence
He will join three fellow countrymen already on the roster — Roman Domon, Jonas Boulefaa and Mathis Courbon — creating a unique French contingent that the university hopes will attract more international talent.
Coach Mark Lawson said the addition gives the team a new dimension in terms of ball handling and perimeter shooting. “Talis brings a blend of size, skill and confidence that fits our style,” Lawson remarked, adding that the guard’s work ethic aligns with the program’s standards.
The Racers are slated to open the upcoming season in early November, and the coaching staff is already integrating Soulhac into drills and scrimmages. Fans can expect to see a more dynamic offense, especially when the French quartet shares the floor.
