Sean Evans Ascends to Key Coaching Role at Queens University of Charlotte

From professional player to assistant coach, Evans drives the Royals to historic success

Sean Evans, a former professional player turned coach, has recently been elevated to the role of assistant coach and rebounding coordinator at Queens University of Charlotte.

A rapid rise in the coaching ranks

In his inaugural season with the Royals, Evans helped steer the program to a 21‑win campaign, marking the school’s first ASUN Tournament championship and its most successful season since the university entered Division I basketball in 2022.

The impact extended beyond the win total; under Evans’ guidance the offense surged to 18th place nationally and topped the ASUN with an average of 84.5 points per game, while three teammates earned All‑ASUN honors and Nasir Mann was crowned tournament MVP.

Evans’ prior experience includes a stint as director of player development for the Royals and a successful period at Colorado Mesa University, where his teams finished third in the conference with a 19‑9 record.

His playing pedigree is equally impressive, having logged a 14‑year professional career across leagues in Germany, Korea, Israel, Turkey, Greece and the United States, and earning a spot in the 2012 NBA Development League Draft after being selected by the Idaho Stampede.

At the professional level Evans averaged 12.2 points and 8.4 rebounds per game for the Stampede and later showcased his skills for Team FOE in The Basketball Tournament on ESPN, where he posted 10.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

The move underscores a growing trend of former players transitioning into multifaceted coaching roles that blend on‑court strategy with player development, a path Evans appears poised to continue at Queens.
