Kevin Thomas, a four-star recruit and top-100 prospect in the 2026 class, revealed his commitment to the University of North Carolina on Wednesday, May 13, through an Instagram post that sparked a wave of reactions across the college basketball community.
A Strategic Addition for the Tar Heels
During his senior season at Weston Sagemont Prep in Florida, Thomas averaged 15.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists and two steals per game, earning numerous player-of-the-year accolades and drawing interest from Auburn, Florida State and Florida.
Standing 6-7, the wing combines perimeter scoring with explosive athleticism, a combination that former LSU coach Matt McMahon described as “great size, versatility to defend multiple positions and a perimeter game that can stretch the floor.”
Thomas’s decision to flip from LSU to UNC follows the firing of McMahon at LSU, a move that opened a pathway for the recruit to join a program that is looking to reinforce depth and add a defensive anchor for the upcoming season.
Coaches and analysts expect the new addition to contribute immediately on both ends of the court, potentially evolving into a consistent threat that can shift momentum in tight games and bolster the Tar Heels’ prospects in the competitive ACC.
