A New Era for Smithville Basketball
Smithville High School announced this week that Eric Nickles will lead the varsity boys basketball team as its new head coach, marking a strategic shift after a period of transition.
Nickles arrives after six years at the helm of the girls basketball program, where he amassed a 100‑48 record and secured two district championships along with two Wayne County Athletic League titles.
During his tenure the team reached the regional finals on two occasions and posted two 20‑win seasons, demonstrating his ability to build competitive squads and develop player talent.
He replaces Corey Kaufman, who departed for a similar position at Massillon Perry, ending his time with the Smithville boys and opening the door for Nickles' leadership.
