Team owner Bill Haslam and CEO Sean Henry jointly announced that Chris MacFarland will assume the dual role of President of Hockey Operations and General Manager, succeeding Barry Trotz, who will move into an advisory position within the organization.
A New Era for the Predators
MacFarland arrives after an 11‑year stint with the Colorado Avalanche, where he rose from scout to general manager and helped guide the club to a Stanley Cup championship in 2022 and a Presidents' Trophy this season. Under his leadership the Avalanche secured nine straight playoff appearances, drafted standout talents such as Cale Makar and Bowen Byram, and executed key acquisitions including Brent Burns, Brock Nelson, Nazem Kadri, Nicolas Roy, Valeri Nichushkin and Artturi Lehkonen.
Before joining Colorado, MacFarland spent 16 years in the hockey operations department of the Columbus Blue Jackets, honing a long‑term track record of building competitive rosters.
Predators CEO Sean Henry praised MacFarland's extensive experience and deep hockey acumen, stating that his background makes him the ideal candidate to steer the Predators forward.
MacFarland and his wife, Chandra, are parents to four children and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to join the Nashville community.
The organization looks ahead to upcoming events, including the 2026 NHL Scouting Combine and Draft, as the new leadership prepares to shape the team's next chapter.
