Sturgeon Bay’s early lead evaporates as Bonduel advances to championship

Clippers Fall Short in Regional Semifinal

Sturgeon Bay’s boys baseball team entered the WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal with a 2-1 lead over Bonduel after five innings, only to see the advantage slip away in a tightly contested game.

Siggy Hansen opened the game on the mound for the Clippers, surrendering two earned runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings, while reliever Ethan Kratcha gave up two unearned runs in the sixth that pushed Bonduel ahead 4-2.

The Clippers answered in the top of the seventh, scoring a run when Hansen grounded out to third base, but the rally was not enough to overcome the deficit.

Both squads finished with seven hits apiece, and Rylan Ruenger paced Sturgeon Bay at the plate with a pair of singles.

Bonduel Advances to Championship

With the victory, Bonduel secures a spot in the regional championship game scheduled for Wednesday, where they will meet the No. 2 seed Brillion.
