A Soccer‑Inspired Shopping Celebration
Old Town Alexandria is set to host a two‑week celebration that blends soccer fever with boutique shopping, as local retailers join forces for Shop the Checkers Boutique Week, running from June 14 through June 28.
During the campaign, storefronts along King Street and neighboring avenues will be decked out in red‑and‑white stripes, Croatian motifs and other decorative touches that echo the national team’s colors, while merchants offer match‑day discounts and limited‑time promotions that invite shoppers to experience the tournament spirit in a retail setting.
Participating venues include The Shoe Hive, The Hive, Eliana Curated, Encore Consignment Boutique, Monday’s Child, Bellacara, Eries Interiors, Boxwood, The Spice & Tea Exchange, Mint Condition, Patina and Sara Campbell, each crafting unique window displays and in‑store activities that reflect Croatian culture and the excitement of the World Cup training camp.
Visitors who make purchases will receive a complimentary ‘Goal Getter’ tote bag while supplies last, and several eateries will serve Adriatic‑inspired small plates, allowing guests to sample flavors from the Balkans alongside their retail therapy.
The initiative is coordinated by the Old Town Boutique Community, a local consortium that has organized the event in partnership with the participating merchants, aiming to boost foot traffic, support small businesses and bring a touch of international flair to the historic district.
