Steve Schweer was introduced as the new men's basketball coach at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, becoming the sixteenth head coach in a program that stretches back 127 years.
A Legacy Re-imagined
In his first public remarks, Schweer expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him to lead the Titans and outlined his vision of returning the program to national championship contention.
He succeeds Matt Lewis, whose tenure culminated in a 2019 national title, and inherits a team with a storied past that includes two recent 20-win seasons and Midwest Conference championships achieved during Schweer’s eight-year stint at Illinois College.
From Division III to Division I
During his eight years at Illinois College, Schweer guided the team to two 20-win seasons in 2023 and 2024, capturing back-to-back Midwest Conference titles and securing automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament.
He now aims to translate that success to the Division I stage, emphasizing conference championships and sustained national relevance for the Titans.
University Outlook
The university’s athletic leadership praised Schweer’s proven record of excellence and expressed confidence that his leadership will revitalize the program and attract new talent.
