Centerville Independent School District, a longtime powerhouse in Texas high school baseball, has been forced to end its current season early after a UIL rules violation was uncovered.
Self‑Reported Eligibility Breach
Interim superintendent Dottie Sullivan confirmed that the district discovered an ineligible player had taken the field during the season and immediately reported the matter to the University Interscholastic League.
The violation prompted the district to forfeit all remaining regular‑season games and to withdraw the team from the postseason, a decision that eliminates the Tigers from title contention despite having reached the regional semifinals.
The Tigers had captured a state championship the previous year and were viewed as strong contenders this season, meaning the infraction will leave Class 2A Division I without a defending champion and open the field for a new champion.
District officials say the episode will trigger a review of eligibility procedures and reinforce the importance of strict compliance with UIL regulations across all sports.
