The Elite 20 Invitational, a showcase organized by Ta’Quan Zimmerman, is set to take place on August 11, 2026 at Shelton High School in Connecticut. The event gathers some of the nation’s most highly ranked high school basketball prospects, both boys and girls, in a single day of competition.
Zimmerman, who endured bullying throughout his youth, has turned that adversity into a driving force behind the tournament’s anti‑bullying campaign. His personal journey from pain to motivation fuels the event’s broader mission of empowering young athletes.
Among the confirmed participants are forward Demarcus Henry, a 6‑foot‑7 standout who has committed to the event, and Kaleena Smith, the top‑ranked player in the 2027 class according to ESPN. Both athletes are expected to draw significant attention for their skill and potential.
Spectators will be admitted free of charge, and the games will be broadcast live on the NBA App, allowing a national audience to follow the action. This is not the first time the Invitational has been staged; previous editions were held at Trinity College in Hartford and East Catholic in Manchester.
A Vision Beyond the Court
While the tournament provides a platform for emerging talent, it will not feature college coaches in attendance because it falls outside the live recruiting period. Nevertheless, the exposure on the NBA App and the emphasis on community values are expected to leave a lasting impression on participants and viewers alike.
The event’s growing profile has attracted coverage from major sports media outlets, including ESPN and 247 Sports, underscoring its significance within the high school basketball circuit.
Local organizers also note the involvement of several other prospects such as Aden Diggs, Malachi Jordan, Jakyi Miles, Shalen Sheppard, Tatiana Griffin, Chloe Johnson, Sydney Douglas, Corrine Lomax, Abdou Toure, Nigel James, and Joe Morelli, who will join Henry and Smith on the court.
