The Pella Christian girls soccer team saw its season come to an abrupt close on Tuesday night, dropping a 7‑1 decision to Des Moines Christian in the Class 1A Region Five semifinals.
From the opening whistle the Eagles showed they could match the opposition, moving the ball with purpose and creating early chances, but the visitors struck first and carried a narrow lead into the half‑time break.
The turning point arrived midway through the second half when Lexi Terpstra found the net, her strike set up by a crisp pass from Tessa Van Zee that briefly levelled the score.
What followed was a six‑goal blitz by Des Moines Christian, a burst of attacking play that stretched the lead beyond reach and sealed the final margin.

Head coach Matt Dowie, while disappointed, pointed to several bright spots, praising the team’s work ethic and the emerging pieces that will form the foundation of next year’s squad.
The Eagles finish the campaign with a 9‑8‑1 record, a tally that reflects both the growing competitiveness of the program and the loss of three senior leaders — Tori Van Zee, Maggie Vos and Lexi Terpstra — who will move on from the school.
