Iowa’s women’s basketball program has added a potent scoring threat in the form of Bria Medina, a transfer guard who arrives from Knox College after a standout Division III campaign.
A Strategic Addition
During her junior year, Medina posted a career‑high 40 points on Jan. 27 and averaged 23.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.7 steals per game, numbers that placed her second in the nation among Division III scorers.
Her arrival marks the fourth portal pickup for the Hawkeyes this recruiting cycle and will leave the team with only two seniors — Medina herself and Amari Whiting — while the overall roster could soon be locked at 11 scholarship athletes.
The commitment follows a recent visit to the University of Iowa campus on May 12 by Medina and Swedish forward Ella Strömdahl, a move that has helped the coaching staff shape a balanced frontcourt.
Coach Chad Leistikow praised the recruit’s work ethic and versatility, noting that her ability to stretch defenses and create off the dribble aligns perfectly with the team’s up‑tempo style.
The addition of Medina not only bolsters the scoring margin but also injects veteran poise, as she enters her senior season with 1,524 points in 78 collegiate appearances.
Fans can expect to see a dynamic backcourt that blends Medina’s high‑volume shooting with Whiting’s playmaking, a combination that could push Iowa back into the upper tier of the Big Ten.
Looking Ahead
With the roster nearing its final configuration, the Hawkeyes are poised to blend experience and fresh talent as they head into the upcoming season, aiming to translate their strong recruiting haul into on‑court success.
