Iowa women's basketball has added a potent scoring threat in the form of transfer guard Bria Medina, a standout from Knox College who brings a proven track record of offensive firepower.
A Division III scoring phenom
Medina concluded her collegiate career at Knox College as the second‑highest scorer in Division III, averaging 23.6 points per game while also contributing 5.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.7 steals. She reached a career peak with a 40‑point explosion in a single contest and finished with 1,524 points over 78 games.
Her arrival marks the fourth portal pickup for the Hawkeyes this cycle and will bring senior leadership to a roster that now stands at 11 players, with Medina joining fellow senior Ella Strömdahl as one of two upperclassmen.
A recruiting trip and new faces
Both Medina and Swedish forward Ella Strömdahl were on campus on May 12, touring the facilities and meeting coaches as part of the program’s ongoing effort to blend fresh talent with existing depth.
The move also underscores the program’s strategy under head coach Lisa Bluder to leverage the transfer market, a plan that has drawn commentary from local analyst Chad Leistikow, who has followed the team’s roster changes closely.
With the addition of Medina, the Hawkeyes hope to bolster their offensive versatility and maintain competitiveness in the Big Ten, while the coaching staff integrates the new pieces into a cohesive unit heading into the upcoming season.
